What can I feed my cat to get him to gain weight?
My cat started to lose hair and weight about 3 months ago, and after a few vet visits, we finally found out that he had a tapeworm. We got rid of the tapeworm about a month ago and his coat is really improving, but he continues to be scrawny and bony. He’s always been kind of a light eater, but I’d really like him to gain some weight. He picks at his dry food, and he only eats a tiny bit of the wet food (different flavors) and canned tuna before he loses interest. What can I feed him that’s nutritious and yummy to him? By the way, he’s extremely active and playful, plus we’ve tested for feline leukemia etc so I think it rules out any other condition. It’s just the weight issue I’d like to address.
Also, Authority dry cat food (chicken), the Pet Smart brand is always available to him when he wants it.

KITTEN foods are generally higher in calories because kittens need those calories while they are growing. If you need to add weight, then try the kitten formulas of dry/wet cat foods.
Me… kittyslave23… I know my place.
wet food is more fatty.
I fed mine raw liver and cream WOW what a difference that made
Try putting shrimp in his dry food. When my cat used to be too thin, I cut the shrimp into small, pieces and put it in the food. He ate like a charm.
Or [ i know this might sound a little weird ] I sprayed my cat’s dry food with cat nip, [ you can buy at any pet store, a bottle for about 3 dollars ] and he smells it and loved it.
Good Luck with your cat!
tapeworms are quite benign and should not cause any weight loss. They are caused by fleas so the hair loss is consistent (scratching due to fleas etc)
Not sure how old your pet is but change food to a different protein source and recheck weight in a couple of weeks. If still losing weright—needs a work up. Leukemia is only one thing out of numerous conditions that can cause weight loss–if only vet med was that easy.
Give us more history if you can and I wish you and your cat the best of luck!
