I am so frustrated. We’ve treated one of our dogs for tape worms four times already this year, and she has them again. The vet keeps prescribing the same medication. She goes about a month between bouts. I am confused because both dogs are regularly bathed and I am not finding fleas on them. We have no fleas in the house. I have walked the yard and house with white socks on and nothing. They never scratch at themselves, and I have searched her head to toe – I don’t find any of the tell-tale signs of fleas. But supposedly fleas are the only way to get tape worms – either that, or dead carcasses in the yard, and we don’t have those, either! She had a bloody stool again today and I know the vet is going to give her the same thing again, and in another month, they’ll be back again. Our other dog has never had them at all, even after all of her bouts with them.
Please, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions here? I’m really frustrated.
I hadn’t thought about flea prevention pills. We’ve never had an issue with them so it didn’t occur to me, but that’s something I can try. Also, thanks for the tip about the water bowls – I refill the outside bowls every day, but I haven’t washed them out recently.
Btw, for the person who asked about the bloody stool – I mean that she had a bloody stool with the white segments in her feces. They are short and flat, not like spaghetti, so I am fairly sure they are tape worms.
My vet just kind of shrugs and says, "Fleas" even though he has never found any fleas on her, either.

I have a relatively small Chihuahua and he is my life. I’m a first time dog owner and not really educated on vet care and medicine etc.
Titan is up to date on his shots and I give him a pill like medication to weed out and prevent fleas etc.
As far as de-worming and worming prevention what is the absolute best for him?
I have a child and I’m focused now more than ever on making sure he doesn’t come into contact with any of these parasites and in turn harm me and my child.
Please educate me in the right direction:
When I first got Titan he was eight weeks old and had tape worms which of course I took him to the vet and he got his needed meds. Right now all seems normal and I just want to arm him from every single malice out there please help

I know that they are most likely tape worms, and my dog DID have fleas. So, that’s what they are. We are working on getting rid of them…
My question is, is it possible for humans to catch these? I know you can if you eat a flea, or some crap. But, can these nasty worms like crawl in threw your feet or something. I’ve heard of worms doing that before, is it possible with these tapeworms? Or whateva?
Is there anyway to prevent them? What are some signs that you’ve caught them?
