I adopted a dog today and his paperwork says he had all his vaccinations and a dewormer on the 11th of this month. Earlier tonight I cleaned up and accident in the house and saw he had what appears to be tapeworm segments in his stool. How long does a dewormer take to work or dispel the worms? Should I buy an over the counter dewormer or wait until the vet opens on monday?

pin worms? may i ask how wud one dog get that???
just found it dogs cant get the pin worms we get Pinworms are gross little worms that live in the intestines and come out of the anus at night to lay eggs. In humans, they are common in children, but rare among adults.
Dogs cannot get the same kind of pinworm that lives in humans. However, pet owners often confuse canine tapeworms with pinworms, because the little segments are white and can come out of the anus, often wiggling around and looking very similar. You will need to talk to your vet and get the dog dewormed.

Ok, so my cat has tapeworms…gross little white maggoty segments coming from his butt….gross;
I’m going to take care of it, so no problem (petco to buy those pills tomorrow morning…sorry, I’m too poor to afford a vet).
My Cat has NEVER had fleas though; so I’m trying to figure out how he got one in the first place….or could he have had one since i got him (about a year ago).
Also, im kinda a hypocondriac…is it possible i caught the worms from him…hes always sleeping in my bed…I feel fine and eat spicy food all the time. I hear garlic pills are good for you, and if you take 4 at once it will kill one if you have one…ugh my stomach is growling anyway…
Thanks for the help, and pet lovers…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t yell at me for not taking my cat to a vet, I just can’t afford it.

Supposedly they are tapeworms. I am really freaked and panicking. I have three cats and a dog. So far only one cat shows signs of the worms.But I dont know what to do, should I treat all my animals?What do I use to treat them?Could this be fatal to my animals?If the little segments of the worm i’m finding contain eggs, can they hatch and spread worms around my house? Also I cannot afford to bring all of my animals to the vet right now so is there anything i can buy at a pet store to deworm them (i’m in canada)?I’m really freaking out and worried and advice wouuld be greatly appriciated THANX

When i got her, the shelter told me that they already de wormed her. When i got her, she had fleas and the shelter had given her a flea bath. When i brought her home, i gave her one right away, and disinfected the house of fleas, and i gave her another bath a week later. I been reading about worms in dogs on the internet. She is pooping worms. And they do look like tapeworms from the pictures i have seen. But the internet said that they would be coming out in segments. They are not. They are coming out long, like 6 inches, and dead. Does that mean the de worming is working and she is just getting it out of her system, or could she still actually have worms still? or what?
