i have a little puppy i got from a shelter. when i got him he could barely walk and was dangerously anemic and emaciated. I took him to the vet and they said he had an upper respiratory infection. they gave him some antibiotic, and he has taken it for a week. I have also been feeding him this really healthy dog foods. he seems to be doing much better. should i de worm him still? not sure if he has worms, but i have a de worming medicine… also does this stuff generally give the dog the shits? how bad is it? do i have to de worm him more then once?
thanks. =)
the medicine was given to me by the people at the pet store that got the dog from the shelter. i don’t think he has worms, but then i read that most puppies have worms?

I found a little puppy the other day. He had worms (i saw them in his poop), so i went to the pet store and got him some medicine. i gave it to him early this morning, and now i’m not not sure how to tell if he still has worms or if he is better. what should i look for?

Ok so i bought this little puppy i say doesnt even weigh a pound its a chihuahua mixed. I bought him at a yard sale(mistake i know). i didnt ask how old it was i was too excited to take her home she was only 40 dollars you dont come around tiny chihuahuas for so cheap so i took her. Id say shes about a month and a half? she has no teeth yet maybe like 3 small ones BARLEY coming in. well i took her home and 3 days later she finaly poopd and i found a single worm size of rice wasnt moving. well i dont doubt this dog has its shots or any sort of medical treatmet so my question is roughly how much would it be on a first visit to my vet. I need to get her her first shots an i think something to cure the worms because i dont know if that was just one of MANY! I dont have much money seeing im only 17 and so at this time so what thinking of buying over the counter shots and worm treatment since my friend works at a pet store and gets discounts on things so itd be cheaper. I really need advise on this.
I dont doubt this dog DOESNT have its shot* had to reword that correctly.

About one month ago, we picked up our new little puppy from the SPCA. She is a small breed mixed dog. When we went into Pet Co to get her food, we wanted to make sure she was getting quality food- PREFERABLY without a large price tag. One of the people introduced us to Natural Balance Ultra Premium, and are on our second smaller bag now.
I am somewhat concerned now that I have learned that this product was recalled for the rice in the food, as the food we feed her has brown rice listed as the second ingredient. Our puppy is young, and I don’t want to be giving her toxic food at a young age.
In addition, I bought some Pet Naturals dog multivitamins. I think this was a good move- as about 15 days into her stay with us, we learned she had tapeworm. I would assume that the multivitamin helped her get nutrients that the tapeworm would have otherwise deprived her of. Her supply is almost finished now, and my question here is, what would be specific benefits of continuing supplementing our puppy with vitamins? Is it recommended that all dogs take multivitamins?

We just adopted a new puppy and of course are going through all the normal stuff with getting a stray. Fleas, tapeworms, etc. We ended up buying one of the cheaper versions of flea medicine at Petco, while I was waiting for my shipment of Advantage and it just seemed to drive the fleas nuts. Our poor little puppy has been itching non-stop. we have the Advantage now, but I’m not sure if I can put it on her. She finally just had a bath (had to wait 10 days because of her spaying surgery, boy did she stink). I think it should be okay to put the new one on especially if this other one isn’t working, right?
