My puppy is 10 weeks old and has only gotten one round of shots. Can i start him on heartworm prevention pills or should i wait after the 3 round of shots? Also, what kind of heartworm pill is better, Sentinel, Interceptor or Heartgard? I live in florida so i need something that prevents fleas too.

Thanks

Heart Worm Medication and Accidents?

Yesterday I got my dog neutered. Also, we started him on Interceptor, heart worm medicine, just in case. Yesterday he pooed in the house. We rescued him a while ago and he has never done this, he has always been really good. I wasn’t to worried about it yesterday because he was still pretty groggy from the anesthesia. But today he did it again. I let him out quite a bit for about half an hour or so. So he has a chance to go outside and not in the house.

Has anyone else had this issue after their dog has been neutered or taken the heart worm medicine? I’m just wondering if this is something I have to be ready for every time I give him the heart worm medicine these next few months.
Here is a to a previous question about his rescue and a picture of him! Just for fun!

Interceptor Flavor Tabs for dogs with tapeworms?

When I bought my puppy last week at 8 wks the breeder said they had dewormed him. That night I noticed there were were some worms in his poop (which I’ve figured out is tapeworms). At first I thought by him pooping them out he was ‘deworming’ but now that they’re still there after a week I’ve read that tapeworms need a different medicine than other worms, and they shouldn’t appear in the feces after you give them the correct medicine.
I got a free sample of Interceptor (treats all kinds of worms) from the vet. If i give this to him now, will it make him have too much medicine in his system since he’s been dewormed with a different medication? I don’t won’t to over do it since he’s still only 9 wks. Has anyone else tried Interceptor for tapeworms?

My dog is a 65+lb mutt. He is almost 1.5 years old. For at least 11 months of his life, his stool checks at the vet have been positive for worms (either giardia or hookworm) He gets a monthly heartworm pill (interceptor)

Even when his stools are negative for worms, the vet has dewormed him because of diarrhea. Ever since I got him, he was sick with diarrhea and he was anemic and lethargic. The vet didn’t know why but kept giving him antibiotics. He got better though. now it’s just almost every month his stool check is pos. for worms.

I have another dog and a cat. i have a cat litter box house so he can’t be getting in her litter. and i clean up after both dogs poop in the yard. I take him to woods trails, but for the last month the woods have been covered in ice/snow and the water frozen over.

so i don’t know where he is getting worms from, and i wonder if this might be something else?

what should i do please help? can this be a kind of chronic disease and not worms?

My boyfriend just bought me a new puppy two days ago. we discovered last night that it had pooped out some tape worms. He is going the middle of this week to get dewormed at the vet, shots, etc. My question is…I have three other dogs that have been on interceptor for a couple of years now (I give them a pill once a month). I can’t find anything on whether inteceptor that they are on will prevent them from getting the tape worms this new puppy has. I’m concerned because I had put all of them in the kennel together to use the bathroom numerous times this weekend, let them sleep together, they were licking the new puppy to clean him, etc. So, can my other ones get tape worms if I have them on inteceptor. Thanks in advance.
