Using OTC worm medication for cats?

We adopted an 18 month old cat from the SPCA about three weeks ago.

I am fairly certain they are round worms. They seem to be exiting from her anus, most usually when she is sleeping or resting. They are not very large, but they are white in color. They usually seem to "dry up." There are also, what I am assuming are eggs, too. They look like sesame seeds– same color, shape, and size.

I have been using HARTZ brand Rid-Worm Paste. I used the equivalent of 7.5 lbs. on her last Thursday, 1 lb last night (Monday), and 1 lb this afternoon (Tuesday). Although there seem to be fewer of them, they are still there. Any ideas how long until we won’t be seeing any?

Also, we have two other cats. When I gave them their full weight last Thursday, they puked everything up. They all share the same litter box. We use clay litter and do not scoop.

Just looking for how much longer we need to be giving the new one medicine, and how to avoid having them spread to the other cats, dog, & us!!
Edit: Ok, so it is definitely a tape worm. I found some great (?) pictures online just after posting here. Problem child is going into the vet today at 2:20pm– just over an hour. Have the dog’s fecal sample with me… and I am just hoping that they will give me the medication to treat the other two cats. Thanks for all your help!

How common is tape worm in humans? My cat has tape worms and I’m worried I may have got them. I have been checking my poo poo. What to look for and will they be laying dormant inside my poo poo or on the outside
Thanks, scared and worried.
Also, I was checking my poo poo with a fork and the phone rang.. Then uncle came and took the fork ( as it was on the floor in bathroom ) and washed it off and put it back with the rest in the drawer.. Should we throw all the forks away? Could the eggs be on that fork still after washing it?
But answer, I have not seen any worms in my poo poo.. Cat is going to vet tomorrow – Thanks

Kitten Tapeworm questions!! help!?

i took my kitten to the vet today and the vet told me she has a tapeworm, so he gave her the pill, but only half of it since she is so little and i have to give her the rest of the pill next week.
my questions are:

Can my kitten spread it to my other animals, like the eggs she releases?
After half the pill, are those eggs still carrying the worm, is the worm still alive?
Can she spread it to me, from the eggs she releases?
Can she sleep on my bed tonight even if she is still releasing the eggs? or would she still be doing that after the pill?

I have a 5.5lb, 1yr4mo old male Chihuahua. I took him in for his annual check up and when they did the fecal test they found he had roundworms and FLUKE eggs in his stool. I religiously give him his Interceptor medicine (to prevent heartworm and various worms) but he still had roundworm. What I am concerned about is the FLUKE. In my area the FLUKE (worm) is very very rare and the vet doesn’t know where he picked it up. I have researched and know all about the trasmission through fecal matter…….my little guy is super clean, very well behaved- he doesn’t dig in the dirt, is only outside to go potty only rarely trys to eat stuff (like pieces of bark) off the ground. I closely supervise him and take things out of his mouth he isn’t supposed to have. He does NOT eat raw fish and is not exposed to lake water etc. (some of the possible ways to get Fluke) He is being treated with medicine right now. (He had no symptoms of infection) Please tell me your dogs experience!!! Are they healthy?

Tapeworm treatment for a small dog?

Recently, my small yorkie contracted a tapeworm. We took her to the vet yesterday afternoon and she was prescribed Drontal Plus Taste Tab, 22.7, K-9. We were told to give her one pill lst night, and then administer the second one in 3 weeks to make sure all the larvi and eggs had died. We gave her the pill which she chewed up an she kept it down for a little over 3 hours. After that she started vomiting. When we caleld the vet to see if he thought the pill was in effect or if we had to adminsiter another one, he asked us if the pill was in the vomit. Since our dog chewed it up, we had no way of telling whether or not it was in the vomit. He told us that we could administer the second pill if we felt we had to, but just to use our judgement on whether we had to our not. The pill contained praziquantel, 22.7 mg/ pyrantel pamoate, 22.7 mg/ febantel, 113.4 mg. Does anyone out there know what we should do in this situation. Our dog, Gracie is barely 4lbs, and her 1st birthday will be on Easter.
