does anyone know what you can give a dog that has heartworms. Whitey this poor dog that somebody dropped off here and my husband found him in our shed nothing but skin & bones we started feeding him and he has put on a little weight after we got him to where he trusted us we was able to take him to our vet and found out he has heartworms but he is still to ran down to put him on heart worm treatment. What gets me is these so called people probably knew he had heartworms and just didnt want to get him well so they droped him off. He is a good dog and I want to do what we can for him. T talked to out vet today or one of the girls that works there and she is gonna ask the vet if he cant be put on a perventive to kill the little heartworms but if anyone has anything or knows of any kind of medicine that I could give the poor boy I would appreciate it. We have had him for 3 weeks and have grown fond of Whitey. Mt 3 little ones cant get it cause they are on heartworm perventive

Ok, well not completely anorexic… but it’s like my dog has a tape worm? She was a stray that I took in, she was pregnant and I took her to the vet for her spay ASAP. She’s been given ALL her shots, dewormed, everything! The vet says she’s a "healthy girl" but she’s so dang skinny? I can feel ribs!! & sometimes if she stretches out and the sun hits her just right u can SEE them too!! I feed her so much trying to get her to put on some weight but she just doesn’t? She gets dry food, wet food, treats, bones, etc but she mostly sets everything aside? She’ll only eat a part of her meals. I’m wondering if my dog is "watching her figure" ? lol… is that possible? My other dog could care less cause she’s so fat! They both get the same amount of exercise and play time… I’m just wondering if some dogs can be picky about their weight? Haha, thanks for any advice

This dog followed me home one day and it looked extremely starved… almost to death. You can see his ribs and his bones in his legs very bad. So I started feeding him and it has almost been 3 weeks. He looks just the same. I’ve fed him table scraps to fatten him up a bit and I’ve been buying Pedigree dog food & feeding him atleast 3 times a day. I watch him until he eats all the food. He is very lethargic, but I thought maybe it was just because he was starved. At the top of his nose it looks like his has maines? I tried asking my dad and even my friends parents to take him to the vet. I feel so helpless when I look at him because I dont know what could be wrong. No one will touch him or go around him because he is sick! I’m only 12 and I can not do anything!!! No body will listen! I wish I was 18 so I could help him. I dont want him to die. Someone told me that it could be heart worms and if it was it would be too late to do anything. A friend said it looks like parvo. Can someone please tell me what I could do?? I bought some SentryHC Worm X Plus De-Wormer chewables for dogs. Its suppose to treat and control roundworms, hookworms, & tapeworms. Gave him 1 chewable yesterday. Please tell me what I can do to help me. I’m only 12 & I cant do NOTHING without an adult! this sucks. I really dont want this dog to die. Any information would be appreciated

Eats perfect
Can see all his bones (like hes starved)
Looks like he has the maines on his nose only. no where else on his body
very lethargic just lays in a shade somewhere outside
Eyes are usually matted up (has the green cold slimy stuff in his eyes)
We live out in the country, dont know if that helps. and I havent been able to find any of his poop to examine to see if its worms. but will update if I see any.

I have never heard of that program, but I will look now for sure. But do you think there is any possible way that once they help him… maybe I could get him back? I am kinda attached after 3 weeks, I dont want to see him put to sleep or taken away from me. Do you think there is anyway I could get him back afterwards? :’(
I just went outside and gave him my entire dinner (mashed potatos, pork chop, and broccoli with cheese) but I just noticed that 4 of his teeth on the bottom are GONE! They were not like that 3 weeks ago. Its like the broke off! What kind of sign is this??

My wife doesn’t work over the summer and stays at home with the dog all day. Yesterday afternoon @ 4:30, she called me at work and said the dog was vomitting up worms & she was scared to touch the vomit. She said if I wasn’t ready to leave work, our neighbor had offered to help her clean it up and take the dog to the vet. I told her no, I was ready to leave work so it was fine.

When I got home, I scooped up the vomit into a container and she put the dog into my car. He vomitted again in the backseat.

We got him to the vet and wife filled out all the papers, talked to the doctors, etc. The treatment ended up costing 0.00 and the actual visit took about 1.5 hours. Since I had no money because I’d just paid the mortgage, she walked to the gas station and took it out of her savings account.

Without being asked she bought me a soda and a bag full of snacks from the gas station knowing I was hungry.

When we got home, I told her to clean up the vomit in the house and I’d clean up what was in the car.

She asked if we could do it together because she was afraid of the worms. She goes,"I don’t mind doing my fair share, I’m just really scared of the worms and don’t want to do it alone". I snapped at her, "No, just go in your room or something", but she came outside anyway and bought me cleaning supplies for the car.

After I scooped up the intial vomit that was full of worms, she offered to scrub and sanitize the carpet but I told her to leave me alone and go back in the house because she was annoying me.

So she went to her home office and closed the door for 30 minutes. Then she ordered two pizzas, one with jalepenos the way I like it and paid for it.

I didn’t talk to her the entire night, even when we ate dinner. Finally, she went and got in bed. While she was laying down I asked her, "Did you give the dog his meds?"

She said she forgot, so I rolled my eyes and sucked my teeth and went to give the medicine.

She got up and helped me, then we went to bed

I suspect I have it. On our parents porch there was a tape worm that fell off our dog not sure where the tape worm went. Ever since then my stomache hunger has grown. I’d like to know are tape worms asexually reproductive? (meaning they don’t need a mate to reproduce?) and how microscopic these things are.

My hunger has grown so badly that my stomache hurts if I don’t eat and this is really intense hunger. Do tape worms do this to your appetite?

And the main question I’d like to know is can tape worms hatch on your skin laying eggs but not growing full size? maybe that’s a whole nother can of worms…

I will note that I’ve been having huge hunger for a while now and that’s a long story in and of itself before I ever saw any tape worm land on a porch..to be honest I think we have this problem because we have a good 8 mice outside huddling under some timber – ever since they came around we’ve had tape worms and scabies…
