Should I buy my cats pet meds or should I take them to a vet?
My question is this: I’m trying to save some money. (since it is pretty limited) I also have one cat and two kittens, all of which have tapeworms and fleas.
Should I go to a Petco or something and just buy some Advantage and worming pills? Or should I just take them to a vet and have it all taken care of there? What would be the better thing to do?
(Note: my felines have yet to be vaccinated)

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ ALL OF THIS! I’M NOT BEING MEAN AND I UNDERSTAND YOUR SITUATION! You MUST take your cats to the vets. First of all, they legally do have to be vaccinated for some things like rabies. Secondly, you want your cats to be vaccinated so they don’t get something deadly like Feline Leukemia which is easily prevented by a vaccination. Your cats all need to be checked over by a vet and they need to be given the proper de-worming meds. and dosing. You could kill your cats by giving them the wrong dosage. You’ll have to bring stool samples. Yes, this will be costly. However, there are organizations out there that help pay for vet expenses and SPAYING AND NETURING (which you really should do too). Ask around at different vets, animal shelters, groomers, pet shops, and animal rescue organizations if they know of anyone that helps low-income people pay for their pet’s vet bills. I really hate to have to say this. I think you should try to find homes for both of the kittens and keep the adult cat. It’s just too much money for you right now. If you don’t get them proper vet care, it’s almost criminal. You could actually get in trouble for negecting their care and face animal abuse charges. And it’s just not the kind thing to do. I know you must really love animals. Don’t you want what’s best for them? The kittens can probably find excellent homes since they are young. I’d contact some no-kill shelters or animal rescue groups to see if they can help you find REALLY GOOD homes for the kittens, someone who can afford their care. What would you do if something awful happened and your cat needed a $1000 surgery? You’d have to euthanize it, wouldn’t you? Well, there’s people out there like me that can afford it. I’m just saying that while you are struggling financially, it’s best to have just one pet. Advantage isn’t cheap either. It’s $9 per treatment and you have to give one treatment to every cat every month. That’s roughly $30 for 3 cats every month. That’s over $300 a year just on flea preventative meds.! PLEASE, PLEASE find them homes if you can’t find an organization to help you with the costs of vet care. I’m not cutting you down. I’m sure you are a good person that really loves animals but you just got in over your head and didn’t think about how much it’d cost to care for 2 more kittens! Do the right thing. You’ll feel much better about yourself. Like I said, it’s criminal if you don’t do anything and downright mean. Cats suffer when they have fleas and worms. How would you feel? Plus, what if they got a horribly, painful disease just because you didn’t vaccinate them? I know you’d feel awful!
you should really take them to a vet although it may be more expensive.
I would probably take them to the vets
well bring them to the vet because there all the bad stuff can be cleaned out from your cats.unlike pills were you must wait
take them to a vet. it’s better now to spend the money, because if you do not, it could cost you more in the long run. after you get them checked out and vaccinated, then you could prolly call pet meds and get the rights flea/tick meds etc that you may need. that’s what i did for my dog. but the vet is the better way to go now.
take the cats the vets for a check up and then go to walmart and kill the wormer/flea meds…………i do this to like you have to save the cash………..but you do have to put them pretty high on the list
Vet.
To be more safe and make sure
they get rid of both of those things
but you can get them too.
i agree with the first too
meds are just fine though we used em on my dog and shes fine
I would take them to the vet. It is more expensive, but hey, its better for your cats. For all you know, the medicine wont work and it will be a rip-off and your cats wont get better. Take them to the vet as soon as possible or call the vet and they will tell you the right medicine to get. Good luck
