Shouldn't you be asking a vet this and not strangers on the internet? There's lots of different types of worms that kittens can have and treating with the wrong medicine will not only not kill the worms but could prove fatal to the kitten. Please get this kitten to a vet – which is the first thing you should have done when you got it.

You can't give a kitten a normal worming tablet…there are special kitten meds that a vet can sell you…..worming tabets can be very dangerous for a young kitten if it has any other health issues, so I would never do it without letting the vet check it out first as if the kitten is sick or has any internal bleeding or other complications, the tablet could easily kill it.

If you are the one who posted about your kitten with loss of control over her bowel movements, I would say no way should you give that kitten anything without a vet seeing her first…if she's had any diarrhea at all at that age, she's probably dehydrated and giving her a tablet could kill her…I'd definitely only give a kitten that age what a vet prescribed. The stuff you can buy in the stores is stuff that is most likely toxic to kittens…some of that stuff in the grocery stores is killing even adult cats. With a healthy adult you might take a chance on it (though I wouldn't given I know how many cats it kills), but with a kitten, no way. I've had to worm young kittens more than once, and the vet gave me a special kitten formulation…it didn't cost much.

    Hope kitty is better soon!

First, why are you giving a tape worm med. The only way a cat can gets tape worms is by ingesting a flea. If a 6 wk old kitten has even a moderate amount of fleas you have a much bigger problem on your hands. Considering the size of a six week old kitten, fleas can actually kill them by sucking out to much blood. Call the number on the bottle and ask. In my 14 years as a tech I have never given a kitten that young tape meds. The first problem you should address is the fleas. There is not too many products you can use on a baby that young. Frontline and advantage is 8 weeks. Most flea shampoos and powders are for adults. Even the kitten stuff starts at 10 weeks. You can use capstar which is a pill that kills the fleas in a matter of hours. You can only purchase it from a vet. It is designed for your exact situation. If you don't want to go the vet route to get rid of the fleas, go get a flea comb from a pet store and some Johnson's and Johnson's Baby shampoo and bathe w/ that. Start w/ the neck and work your way down cause fleas will automatically migrate to the head for safety. Towel dry kitty and then just pick out the fleas w/ your fingers and the flea comb.
You really should go the vet route though. Anemia can set in very quickly in little baby kitties. Good luck!!

Four weeks of age is the approved age to give a kitten dewormer. However, I would check with a vet first, because all animals are different and weight/size can influence the correct process. I work at an animal shelter and we give our kittens Strongid if they are 4 weeks of age or older. It is very effective and I would recommend it. =) Good luck! I hope this was of some help. But, again, if you can, ask your vet to ensure what is going to be best for your kitten, as each case is different.
