Fecal sample is best for all other intestinal prasaites- but the chances of getting a tapeworm segment in the sample are low. I trust that you know what you're seeing. Save the segments you find in a little jar or baggie so you can have your vet analyze them. They might not be tapeworms. The Advantage will prevent new roundworm infections but stronger meds are needinf to treat an existing infection. Clean clean clean- clean litter boxes and vacumm 2-3x daily while treating the cats- or the eggs could be lying around the house ready to infect them. Also- fleas carry tapeworms so make sure that isn't an issue. Make sure the cats are getting the pills- and not spitting them out. All it takes is one sneaky cat and they'll all keep the tapeworms. Weigh each cat to get the correct dose. Treat once, then again in 2 weeks. If they're still around after that- you're going to need a different medication from the vet based on fecal samples. You may need to treat the house as well, once you've got flea eggs in your carpet it can be hard to get rid of them. Vacuum daily, a bagless vacuum is better, and empty it outside if you can. Get under the couch, behind the drapes, etc-they like dark places. If your cats hunt, then they will continue to reinfest themselves (by swallowing the fleas that are on their prey) and you will need to deworm forever on a regular basis, anywhere from every few months to once or twice a year depending on how good they are at hunting.
