will the medicine hurt him if he dont have worms, can i give it to him just to be sure?
Check with your vet – are you using Heartguard for dogs? You give it to dog monthly to prevent Heartworm disease. Keep a very close eye on the dog in the meantime.
Over the Counter worming medicince will not kill all the worms- there are many different types of intestinal parasites- and youshould take a stool sample into your vet. Please check out this webiste
No, worms do not always show up every time the dog goes poop. And dogs can get worms from fleas. Be sure your dog is on a good flea preventive, and on a good heart guard medicine. For a flea medicine, I keep my dogs on Advantage Plus. It has always worked for my dogs. I am also giving my dogs Interceptor to keep them free of Heart worms. Sorry to tell you this, but over the counter medicines usually do not work. The best medicine for worms is from your Vet. The medicine should not hurt them if they do not have worms, providing you give it to your dog as perscribed. Good Luck.
No dogs should be suffering from worm infestation these days. Not with safe and easy to administer wormers available from so many sources.
You should check with the counter person at the pet store where you adopted your puppy. They will be able to advise you best on what products to use. Always contact the professionals at the pet store, they are all factory trained by the manufacturer’s reps. They know what they are talking about.
Not all worms show in the feces. Hookworm and whipworm will show bloody feces but the worms are too small to see and heartworm will not show either. Most likely you will see tapeworm eggs (digestive worms) and roundworms. These can be treated overt the counter with a liquid de-wormer. I prefer liquid because it absorbs faster. I would recommend you take your dog in for a heartworm and fecal test to make sure there isn’t any other threat. It is required that each animal receive the heartworm test every year or within 3 months of being taken off a heartworm preventative. Failure to treat your dog for worms can result in loss of nutrients, stomach upset, diarrhea which can lead to dehydration, infection, and can even be fatal. Get it treated fast.
ask your vet, and no
