Cat Tape worms?
Tape worms. I found white rice length things in my cats poop. Some came out wiggling. Are they definitely tape worms. He is an indoor cat, fully but we just took in a mother cat and kittens and that may be where he got them from.
He is also not acting as normal as usual. He is lethargic and not as playful. He has also gained weight (maybe from the switch to kitten chow for the rest of the cats)
any advice
i will be getting him dewormed but i have to wait for the kittens to go because they are too young to be dewormed and i have no way of confining them so he will get the worms again if i do it now.
it will be another week or so

Hey Sweetie, tape worms come from fleas and when you have her wormed I am sure the vet will give her something that will not harm her little ones. I have tried the Diatomaceous Earth and I didn’t have alot of luck with it but a friend of mine did, so I guess it just depends on the cat. So remember as long as you have fleas, you may have this problem from time to time and the vet will give you the pills for them usually without an appt. Mine does anyways. Also, ask your vet for a pill called Capstar . Even little kittens can have those and it will kill all the fleas on them for up to 24 hours, but be sure and have them in the bathroom or somewhere where all the fleas that come off of them don’t end up in your house or it will just be a constant struggle. When I first used the Capstar I was amazed at how well it works and how many fleas my inside cats actually had on them. But it will kill the fleas on them and your cat will be doing alot of scratching for about an hour. And they are safe enough to give to your cat every day but they cost about 4 or 5 dollars a pill so most of us can’t afford that. But good luck and I hope all goes well for you and your little ones and get rid of those tape worms as soon as you can as they can make your baby very sick Good Luck
The tapeworns come from the fleas. My cats all had them when we lived in California but just moving to Reno killed them all along with the fleas. for some wierd reason there are no fleas or tapeworms here.
Diatomaceous Earth
If you make it so he will eat it. It won’t hurt him, but it sure will hurt those worms. It’s like having him swallow ground up glass, without it being dangerous for him.
Diatomaceous Earth is something that when we were in TX you could put this down around fire ant (or any ant) hills and it would kill the ants cause they would walk over it and it would cut up their bodies. So, if you get your cat to eat it then it will cut up the worms and not harm your cat. We gave it to my dog when he had worms and he hasn’t had them sense.
weight gain could easily be linked to kitten food….more calories for growing kitties. as far a deworming, call the vet ask them what to do. becaus kitty sounds sick and waiting till the little ones will not be in his best interest. you need to find a way to keep them separate and get your guy back on his regular food. but please consult the vet before he gets worse.
you can actually worm the nursing mother which in turn she will pass on to her kittens to help protect them as well. but you need to worm your own cat. if you don’t he will die i don’t think you would want that would you.he needs to be wormed every 3 month’s.
