My cat threw-up a tape worm today. We went to the vet and they gave us medicine. He got it about 2/3 hours ago. When will we start to see results? And how? Please help!!
24-72 hrs. You may see dead segments or entire worms pass in the stool – they’ve got to get out someway!
Have a stool sample rechecked a month from today to make sure the infection has been cleared.
There are two types of tapeworm: one is transmitted via rodents, meaning your cat would have to be eating rodents to contract tapes. If this is the case, you may want to talk to your vet about regular dewormings.
The other is transmitted via fleas, and is more common. It would be wise to check for fleas and/or treat with a topical flea product such as Advantage, Frontline Plus, Vectra 3D, Revolution, or Promeris.
Your cat may need an X-ray, and dont worry, vets have medicine for tape worm. It is not as bad as it sounds, and is not hard to get out of a cat. Your cat may need to be at the vet every week for a checkup to make sure it’s ok. As time goes on these checkups will grow far apart and eventually be gone. Dont lose hope, cause everything is ok!
Also: After your cat is done with the vet, check it your self for runny eyes, red eyes, runny noses, and maybe your cat will be acting weird. If so call your vet ASAP! Once your cat feels better, let it lye low, and dont push it!
as long as you got the medication from the vet you will see results within 24-48 hours and Im not sure, but when my cat got worm meds from the vet in a couple weeks he suggested a second treatment you may want to ask him if another dose will be necessary in 2weeks or so…good for you to take your cat to get the meds from the vet…it makes me so mad when people waste their money on OTC junk

give it 48 hrs and the cat should pass them all out in its poo.
