Any one know why Worm Shield from Banfield is being recalled?
I just received a recorded message from Banfield that the heart worm medicine I give my dog, Worm Shield, is being recalled. The message didn’t say why just that I would receive something in the mail. Any one else get this, or know anything?
Thanks
I just got back from the Vet and it is for certain lot numbers, I don’t know what they are. But ours was one of them, up to 22 lbs was the box we had. They said the recall was because there was a chance the medicine’s potency wouldn’t last to the expiration date. They refunded me the $ for the box, I had 1 pill left. I just took a new box instead.
So call Banfield with your lot number and they should be able to tell you over the phone.
Thanks for your responses.

The 51-100 pound tablets are being recalled, they are saying that dogs that are 75 pounds or more that it is not strong enough. So it is not giving your dog the right dosage against heart worms. They said to bring your dog back into the Banfield you went to, to be retested and new medicine to be given no charge. If you have more questions you can call their main # 1-800-838-6738 ext. 1803 that’s what I did. I found the number on their main website Banfield.net.
Good Luck
I have received the same message! Keep me posted….I cannot find anything on the internet.
I just received the same message so I call my Banfeild hospt. They said that it was a volantary recall on certain lots sold, but that none of the recalled lots were sold at my banfield. I suggest you call the hospital that you bought the product from, and they should be able to help you more. Hope that this helps you!!!
I recieved the same message from Banfield. Unable to find any information myself. Keep me posted if anyone finds out anything. Wasn’t thrilled to switch from Heartguard to begin with.
I just received the same phone call. I called my local Banfield and they said it was for the 51-100 with certain lot numbers on the bottom of the box.
Just spoke to my local Banfield and there are several size dosages that are affected, it is not a problem with it be toxic, but the potency and the ability to properly protect…… most of it is 51 lbs or more but there are some lots for under 25 lbs.
Just called Banfield, they said certain lots don’t contain an effective dose. The lot I have was ok, so I didn’t get details as to what the next step would be.
I got the same call 10 mins ago. So I called them (locally) and the asoicates don’t know either. BUT She said that they have sent back some from their stock and that they would have to see my product box ( in person) to check the serial numbers, to see if we had got some of the numbers that were recalled.
Just contacted my local Banfield… They confirmed the package lot number.. I was told it was related to two possible issues.. Medication on equal to dosage stated and possible expiration date of one component of the the medicine..
The local Banfield just called and there is confusion of the lot numbers.. But they offered a free heart worm screening for my little guys just to play it safe..
So, it doesn’t appear to be anything toxic.. I just wish the automated call would have provided a little more information.
I don’t know the reason why, but the way to tell if your batch is on the recall list is to check the LOT number on the bottom of the box. If it starts with 08 you are okay. If it starts with 09, it is the bad batch. This is what the rep at our Banfield clinic just told me when I called. Hope it helps.
When I called Banfield, they said it was no big deal, that some of the lots did not receive enough of the medication that protects the animal. Call your local Banfield and have them check your lot #’s.
Neither Lot # 081052 or 080856 are affected…
I received the phone message alert, then called our Banfield Pet Hospital They want to see our puppy and test him for heartworm again, also they want to replace his used box of Worm Shield.
